WHAT
Historical Renovation
This historical renovation project took place in the Le Murate Art District in Florence, Italy. The objective of the project was to design a space where people can discuss Italian design and culture and its contributions to art perspectives and to promote Italian designers. The main programs to be included in the renovation were the exhibitions, lecture space, workshop, cafe, and an administrative space. The concepts of stacking and focal point were taken as inspiration from two Italian designers to drive the design of the project.
These concepts are combined to enhance the overall environment and to produce a center of interest with the use of colored aspects and layered effects. Stacking creates volume in a space and color attracts the eye, making a space more intriguing and welcoming. These two ideas were inspired by the Italian designers Ettore Sottsass and Michele de Lucchi.
